New Hauls: Makeup from Drugstore.com

This is a delayed haul post. Actually I have a ton of delayed haul posts. I really wonder if i should post them. xD

Here's some stuff I got from drugstore.com during one of their sales that I can't remember. I really did minimise my order.

From left to right: L'Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Perpetual Purple,
Maybelline EyeStudio Color Tattoo 24Hr Eyeshadow in Bad to the Bronze, Tough as Taupe,
Maybelline Fit Me! Concealer in Medium 25

Bought Maybelline EyeStudio Color Tattoo 24Hr Eyeshadow as there were huge raves for them. (I'm so late into this). Got them in Bad to the Bronze and Tough as Taupe since I figured cream eyeshadows don't keep well in our weather so basic colours are probably the best. I love these. These are really nice and I would recommend them. I use Tough as Taupe just to lightly define my eyelids on lazy days.

Got L'Oreal Infallible in Perpetual Purple. I haven't opened this yet but I've swatched this in Watsons stores so many times. I really love the colour payoff of these I feel like buying all the colours. The thing that make me a little cross is they labelled the eyeshadow colours in Singapore as green, blue, purple, gold while online, these have completely differently colour names.

I also ordered a couple of Maybelline concealers but most were out of stock. :\ I'll probably try to order again. Now the Maybelline Fit Me! Concealer in Medium 25 is something i decide to try after watching MakeupGeek's rave about it on Youtube. I ordered a shade up so that it'll cover my dark eye circles. A quick review. Now it is darker than I expected. I think it will fit those NC30+ girls. It also seems orange-based for this shade which makes sense if you want a peachier shade to use as corrector for your dark eye circles. The consistency of this concealer is actually liquidy and easy to use. The concealer is pretty good though it still isn't strong enough to cover my dark eye circles. I do think many others with less serious dark eye circles problems would enjoy the light-weightness of this product. It's really cheap too. I think it was USD$6.

A little rant here. Do you know how much a L'Oreal liquid concealer cost in Singapore? It costs SGD$19.90. I can buy 3 of those.

Anyway hope you enjoy it. I'll be back shortly.

Review: NYX Concealer in A Jar

Here's a review for NYX Concealer in a Jar. I have been using these for months so I think it's time for a review!

Got the picture from Google Images.
Previous hotlinked images to NYX were removed several times.

It all started when I searched a frantic search for the perfect undereye concealer. I figured all my other liquid/stick drugstore concealers weren't really doing anything for me. So I decided to find a creamy concealer which would ensure better coverage for my dark eye circles. And so I found NYX!

NYX Concealer in A Jar has a total of 9 concealer shades (that's a huge variety). They also have 3 colour correctors shades, namely Yellow, Green and Lavender. These concealers/correctors come in a glass jar. It's almost a 5g sample jar size except the glass is extremely thick, making it look bigger.

Currently, I'm using Beige for my undereye circles. I also have 2 correctors: Yellow and Green.

Beige is a slightly darker match for my NC25-30 skin. I prefer using a slightly darker undereye concealer shade as I think it works better in terms of coverage. I hate it when I was pushed to buy lighter concealer shades by sales assistants and ended up making my dark eye circles look ashy instead. Would describe Beige as a medium beige concealer with lots of yellow in it. (The picture I posted was not taken by me but it certainly looks like Beige in that picture.) It was perfect for me to use for concealing. The consistency is very creamy (not dry creamy but smooth creamy) and very easy to blend. Of course it would still cake and show off your fine lines if you pile on a lot so you just got to use it moderately. I really like that it's buildable and gives good amount of coverage.

I must say I really love it!

I've tried it for concealing acne and such but I don't think it's as good as compared to using it to conceal. It doesn't last as long for me. Moreover, this concealer contains mineral oil. I wouldn't really advise it for using it to conceal pimples as it might just irritate it instead if your skin is very sensitive towards mineral oil.

The correctors, however, were a disappointment for me. They are not bad but not what I expected. I wished they were a little deeper in colour.

Yellow is meant for correcting dark eye rings. It's a bright pastel yellow shade. When applied, it sheers out but on my eye circles, it comes off as a whitish patch. It doesn't really does much for me nor neutralises the purples tones in my eye circles. It certainly goes the job of brightening the eye area but I wouldn't use it alone. I think it would be better for those with fairer skintones as the "whitish patch" wouldn't be as obvious.

Green was a recent purchase. It is meant for neutralising redness in the face. It's a minty green shade. I used this on my acne just to see if it helps in reducing redness. My verdict is you really need to use just a minimal amount or the greenness would be obvious on the face. I'm not a fan after using it as I find it too much of a hassle. And maybe I shouldn't be using something with mineral oil on my acne (I'm sensitive to it.). But I think this would be great for those with rosacea problems and really want to neutralise all the redness on their face.

That's about it. Overall, I still like these concealers. Mineral oil bugs me at times but for the price, it's really worth it. I can't remember the price but I believe it's 5 USD or even less during sales. If you are really in need of a concealer, this product is definitely worth a try.

New Hauls and Reviews: NYX and Jesse's Girl Cosmetics

This is a way delayed haul which I almost forgot to post. Purchased it off Makeup Masala. Initially, I only wanted to get a brush. But I ended up buying other stuff after going through several makeup reviews on NYX and Jesse's Girl Cosmetics. The brush I wanted was out of stock by the time I finally placed my order and I ended up getting these instead. :)

Bought:
Jesse's Girl Color My World Baked Eyeshadows in Aqua and Earthtone
Jesse's Girl Bejeweled Eyeshadow Quad in 432A-1
NYX Concealer in a Jar in Beige and Yellow
NYX Megashine Lip Gloss in Natural

I ordered one of NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils too but it was out of stock when they finally got to my order.

And believe it or not, here's what I got as freebies.

EcoTools Bamboo Lash & Brow Groomer (free with purchase of $25 and above)
A sample Makeup Masala Mineral Blush (which I believe they give with every order)
L.A. Colors Sheer Lipgloss Tube: Pink Icing
A pair of false eyelashes

The last 2 items were a free gift to me for they delayed my order and were really apologetic about it. I think it had something to do with the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil. They were waiting for the supplier to restock so that they can send out my order but it didn't come in time and my package got delayed. But they were really nice and informed me about the OOS item and also told me they would be throwing in a free gift.

This is what I called GREAT SERVICE! :D

I received my package soon after they shipped it and everything was really neatly packed. I was super excited when unwrapping everything in the package. I do apologise for the lack of photos because I was too engrossed playing with everything.

The Jesse's Girl Color My World Baked Eyeshadows in Aqua and Earthtone are really pretty. The packaging made it look like a jewel. The pigmentation of these eyeshadows really do not disappoint. They are really pigmented as they are baked eyeshadows. Earthtone is a really flattering copper/bronze colour. I think it's very wearable. Aqua is this pretty blue shade with silver blended in it. When blended together, I find it a bit frosty but the shade of blue is really nice. These shadows can also be used wet for more intense pigmentation. Overall, I find them not too bad but I probably wouldn't wear them for daytime. The downside is that there is no place to store the eyeshadow applicator that comes with it.

The Jesse's Girl Bejeweled Eyeshadow Quad in 432A-1 is a grey eyeshadow quad and I love it. It looks a little plain on the site but it's not. It comes in this jewelled casing (on one side). The jewelled casing's cute but I don't dig it nor do I hate it. The grey shades in it are lovely. It's really a nice grey quad. The shades are a cream white, a light silver, a medium charcoal and a black. All the shades are a little shimmery but I don't think you can see the shimmers in the picture.

I also got 2 NYX Concealer in A Jar (colour in photo is a bit off). These are the real reason why I ordered. I stumbled upon it on the site and went to look up reviews. Apparently they have rather good reviews. After going through colour swatches, I picked out Beige (a light medium shade that is yellow toned) and Yellow (a colour corrector). The NYX Concealer in A Jar is awesome. It's my Holy Grail now. It's about a 5g jar size but the glass surrounding it is super thick so the jar is bigger. The concealer is creamy and very emollient. It's very easy to spread and blend and doesn't really cake. I love it in Beige, which is almost my skintone but darker. I picked Beige because I wanted a darker shade to cover up the dark eye circles. The one in Yellow helps to neutralise purplish dark eye circles, making the dark eye rings less obvious. But I find it leaving the area looking a little too white, like you have too much highlighters over it. Still trying to find a way to use the one in Yellow.

NYX Megashine Lip Gloss in Natural is also really nice. It appears to be mauve-pink but on my lips, it's MLBB (my lips but better)! Super natural, super nice. I don't like over glossy lip glosses and this is just perfect. The only thing about this gloss I didn't like is the smell. It's supposed to be a cherry smell but I don't think it smells like it. Overall, I think it's a great gloss.

I haven't really tried the freebies so that's about it. Very satisfied with this haul.

Storing sample jars and Daiso eyelash curler

I'm feeling a little cranky right now. I think I had a bad week although it's only halfway through. And even when I come online, sprees are not going smooth, :(

Got the impulse to do a huge NYX haul.

Anyway, so here I am. To do some ranting......

I went to Daiso earlier and was pretty excited. Picked up a couple of stuff.

I finally found a way of storing my sample jars (they gave me a big headache). Probably got inspired after reading this blog entry. It looks like this.

But I found the price of the case ridiculously high.

So i picked up this at Daiso. This is for making ice sticks and it's 2 pieces stuck together.

And you know what? They fit the sample jars perfectly. I can get 28 jars in it, and they don't roll about as much. And it's only $2.

So there you go. A cheap storage solution for sample jars. Since there's 2 pieces of it, you can store 56 sample jars. But I don't really like the bottom layer as the pattern's concaved in another direction. But it still works as well. And the jars wouldn't fall out since the sides are higher up. You can stack these up but it would be troublesome to look through.I think the best would be to put these in those small tiered drawers.

But of course, you have to make sure your sample jars don't leak when placing them sideways. Some of mine do so I got a little worried when placing them like that.

Overall, I'm really pleased with it. It's really neat now.

I also picked up Daiso's eyelash curlers. Read it off Cozycot forums that a nameless brand eyelash curler works pretty well. There was no picture of it but only a description. Anyway I ended up picking up only eyelash curler with a spring. It's the silver one on the right.

And when I got home to try it, I agree it works pretty well. At least it works tonnes better than the Manicure curler I bought from Guardians (the gold one on the left). You can curl many times with the Manicure curler and it wouldn't work. I studied the both of them. Amazingly, they look almost the same (except the Manicure curler was more sturdy). I've always thought it was the curvature of the Manicure curler that didn't work for me. It wasn't it. The curvature and the length of both curlers were exactly the same. Rather it was only the leverage thing that was different. I know they look the same but the Manicure's lever was actually more steep and protuding out a little more and no matter how I use it, I can't fit the curler close to all my lashes and get my lashes at the ends curled. Suddenly it makes a lot of sense why it didn't work for me. The Daiso curler's lever was a little shorter so when you press it close to your eyes, the curler fits the lashes perfectly. But that applies to me. If you have higher cheekbones, maybe curlers with steeper leverage might work better for me. Just maybe.

Never knew there's so much knowledge to getting an eyelash curler. o.O
I haven't figured out the difference between spring curlers and non-spring ones yet though.

I also picked up their undereye concealer (in the middle) because it looks so yellow. The shade is "Light Beige". And my verdict is, don't get it. Haha.

It comes out in a shade looking like very very light beige. Almost like the colour pencil colour which we use for colouring humans we drew when we were kids. I tried it on the undereyes and yes, they conceal super well because you get two white streaks under your eyes. It was fun though. Haha. It is super illuminating and I still managed to find some use as a highlighter. But I don't recommend it as undereye concealer, unless perhaps you are super fair.

The pencil on the extreme left is a Rhomlom multi-use pencil which I just bought elsewhere. I think I'll blog about it another day.
